Explore Zambia & Beyond

Zambia is sometimes considered Africa’s best-kept secret by safari aficionados.

For lovers of wilderness, Zambia has it all: wetlands, rivers, rugged hills, large tracts of wildlife-rich bush and plenty of waterfalls, including the most iconic one of all, Victoria Falls. Here, thrillseekers can raft the Zambezi River, bungee jump off the magnificent Victoria Falls Bridge or swim in the natural rock pools right on the edge at Livingstone Island.

Wildlife lovers will be in paradise in Zambia. Leopards thrive, as do lions, elephants and other big game species including rhino, which have been reintroduced to select Zambian parks. Zambia is also home of the walking safari, introduced in South Luangwa National Park by the legendary guide, Norman Carr. There is nothing to beat the experience of getting close to the wildlife on foot. And the country is renowned for the its award-winning safari guides. Although tourism is on the increase in Zambia, you can still feel that you have discovered your own travel secret!

The 'very best bits of Zambia' include Livingstone, the South Luangwa National Park and the exhilarating Lower Zambezi National Park. If you want to tick off Zambia with all its highlights, this is the itinerary we will create for you!

Livingstone - this is what you're here for : the mighty Victoria Falls! It's a part of the Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park, located 11km outside town before the Zambia border crossing. From the centre, a network of paths leads through thick vegetation to various viewpoints. For close-up views of the Eastern Cataract, nothing beats a walk across Knife Edge’s Bridge, through swirling clouds of mist and a circular rainbow below. The exhilarating ‘flight of the Angels’ by microlight is one of the many exceptional experiences one can expect to find in our town. Those with a flair for the vintage may board and dine upon an exquisitely restored classic steam train with a bi-weekly stop on the glamourous Victoria Falls Bridge built in 1905 before settling down to a sumptuous five-course Menu. Another venue that has pride of place in Zambia is Livingstone Museum which devotes an impressive gallery to the adventures and memorabilia of David Livingstone. Time your visit to catch a ‘Moonbow’ - when the moon is full, the sky is clear and Victoria Falls are at their peak flow, huge rainbows appear through the mist at night. The light of the moon is refracted through the spray that rises up from the base of the Victoria Falls. This unique event is visible the day before, the day of and the day after the full moon.

For scenery, variety and density of animals, South Luangwa is one of our favourite of the parks in Zambia and one of the most majestic in Africa. Impalas, pukus, waterbucks, giraffes and buffaloes wander on the wide-open plains; leopards, of which there are many in the park, hunt in the dense woodlands; herds of elephants wade through the marshes; and hippos munch serenely on Nile cabbage in the Luangwa River. The bird life is also tremendous: about 400 species have been recorded.

Another one of Zambia’s premier wildlife viewing areas is the Lower Zambezi National Park. The draw-card of this area is the remoteness. The Park covers an area of 4,092 square kilometers along the northwestern bank of the Zambezi River. Step on board on a boat or drift silently pass the riverbank in a canoe for the best wildlife viewing, since most wildlife is concentrated around the Lower Zambezi Valley and the river. Elephant herds, sometimes up to one hundred strong, hippo, leopard, lion, buffalo, over 400 bird species – they all gather in this mesmerizing wilderness.
